Welcome and thank you for visiting the Governor’s Office on Women’s Policy (OWP) web site. To improve the quality of life for Louisiana’s women and families, OWP provides research-based leadership in the areas of health and safety, economics and education. For nearly 30 years, the Governor’s Office on Women’s Policy has comprehensively approached the issues, needs and concerns of women - with combating and eradicating family violence - as its ultimate goal. OWP administers funding for 20 statewide programs which provide shelter, counseling and direct services to domestic violence victims. These programs work hand-in-hand with domestic violence survivors, offering support and resources to help them lead safe and fulfilling lives. Let me extend my sincere appreciation to Governor Bobby Jindal, the Louisiana Women’s Policy and Research Commission, the Louisiana Women’s Foundation, the Louisiana Legislative Women’s Caucus and our network of community advocates and volunteers for their support of the Governor’s Office on Women’s Policy. With our partners across the state, OWP is dedicated to bringing about change in society’s institutions, laws, attitudes and beliefs that will allow women and their families to live lives free from violence. Please take a moment to review our web site which highlights our goals and priorities and provides information and resources about how we can work together to provide a safe haven for domestic violence victims and their families. Until we can end violence against women and their families, our work must continue. Sincerely, Peggy Gehbauer Executive Director
